Understand and be aware of the STAGES OF LOVE that you go through throughout your marriage.
A WORD and its definition. This simple word, when understood and responded to in your relationship can become the most important word in your love life.
A SAYING which is a call to action and resultant success.
RULES FOR FIGHTING. When your relationship gets a bit out of kilter these eight ‘rules for fighting’ allow you to express yourselves honestly and openly to enable you to get back in love with each other.

Where did these 5 rules come from?

The first four rules were developed as part of a marriage enrichment programme presented primarily as a live in weekend by an organization called World Wide Marriage Encounter. Whilst the Marriage Encounter weekend provided an opportunity for intense closeness and undistracted communication, these four rules for marriage were integrated into the weekend course.

The Marriage Encounter Weekend has been enjoyed by over 3.5 million couples in 94 countries and has been translated into well over 100 languages. The fifth rule was discovered over thirty years of marriage counselling by Dr Gary Chapman, whose book ‘5 Love Languages’ has sold over 20 million copies.

5 Marriage Rules Presentation

How can we learn these rules?

5 Marriage Rules is provided verbally in a 60 to 90 minute verbal presentation to a couple or a small group. You will not be asked or expected to share your own relationship with the presenter. This is not a marriage clinic, therapy or a substitute for counselling.

5 Marriage Rules is not for profit. Currently, there is no charge for the consultation or presentation. However, there is a disbursement fee of around $70 per couple to access an online ‘5 Love Languages’ Premium Assessment and your private 15 page report identifying your individual preferences in giving and receiving love.

What style of presentation can we expect?

Our presentations are provided in a relaxed conversational manner, ideally in Devonport, Auckland to go through the presentation. You will not be asked to share about your relationship and there will be opportunity for questions. You will get examples of when and how to apply the rules to promote good communication, respect for each other and stay in love with each other through your life’s journey.

Meet trevor

Your 5 Marriage Rules Coach.

5 Marriage Rules coach Trevor has been married to Christine for 54 years (2025). They have seven children and 18 grandchildren.

The first four rules which make up ‘ 5 Marriage Rules’ were learned by Trevor and Christine in 1980 as content in a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend that they attended. Subsequently Trevor and Christine for five years trained and assisted with the presentation of such marriage counter weekends including writing and presenting talks on all topics, then leading the provision of the same principles to engaged couples.

It has been living these four rules for marriage for the past 44 years that has convinced them that these have easily been the best guidelines for their marriage in their lives. The fifth rule has been learned more recently and must be included.

Will 5 Marriage Rules solve our problems?

Whilst your communication, understanding of your marriage and each other, and listening focus may be improved, serious issues such as infidelity, drug use, alcoholism, gambling and upbringing hang ups and other issues may need a trained councilor’s help.

Are Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekends still available?

In New Zealand, there hasn’t been a weekend held since pre Covid. Consideration is being given to a future date. Australia and other countries have weekends scheduled.

What is the cost to hear about 5 Marriage Rules?

If 5 Marriage Rules is so good why haven’t we heard about it before?

This concept of ‘5 Marriage Rules’ being offered in a presentation is new. Previously four rules were part of a live in weekend experience which was provided and shared and spread throughout the world. This included some 3.5 million couples and over 90 countries. The fifth rule was discovered more recently by Dr Gary Chapman who has sold over 20 million books and created a worldwide awareness of his discovery.
